From heartbreak and a life-altering diagnosis to founding OneAnother, my journey is proof that connection and kindness can transform even the loneliest paths.

“In 2007, I was heartbroken from the breakup of a seven-year relationship. Before that, I was diagnosed with dermoid cysts in my uterus and had to undergo a procedure in which one-and-a-half of my ovaries were removed. In the process, I also became the youngest person in the UK to have their eggs frozen on the NHS; The doctors told me that having a child naturally was a distant possibility.

In January 2009, I came into Australia – heartbroken, eggs frozen; feeling like I had nothing to offer a partner. But if you saw me from the outside, you wouldn’t catch one hint of it. I threw myself into my career and distracted myself with my social life. Being the life and soul of any occasion is a skill you master early in the job.

It’s safe to say that my career trajectory really took off, working for some of the biggest agencies and clients in the world. I met a lot of people, worked on some amazing projects, scaled Global Social 101 and Comms 101 to great heights, and freelanced in various industries. Professionally and literally, I was flying high; my work took me to many beautiful countries quite frequently. But as a person, I couldn’t be any lonelier.

When I was 30, after a chance meeting on a plane with a handsome stranger, I got into a relationship. We were both shocked to find out I was pregnant, naturally, only three months after meeting; A miracle – even the doctors were surprised. It was a beautiful moment in my life when I was blessed with my miracle little boy.

Since then, due to my own lived experiences I’ve been a strong advocate for community and kindness. This advocacy led to OneAnother in 2020, a platform that connects corporates and individuals with social impact causes they care about. It has been made possible by 250+ amazing volunteers who have donated over 35,000 hours of work.

I know that loneliness and disconnection is higher than it ever has been, it is now my mission in life to provide a solution so that no one ever needs to feel alone.

It’s a lonely world out there – let’s be there for OneAnother ” Lisa Hollinshead
