“Driven by purpose and a desire for change, I strive to create lasting impact by challenging established norms and fostering sustainable solutions.

I was born in South Africa, a country with many social challenges like crime and violence. When my daughter was born in 2007, I faced a critical decision: to accept those harsh realities or make a change. So, my family and I moved to Sydney, Australia.

We arrived during an interesting time—right as the financial crisis hit. Fortunately, I managed to secure a position at Commonwealth Bank, and my wife joined a top-tier law firm. While the timing was difficult with job freezes soon after, we were lucky to land on our feet.

For the first 15 years of my 16-year journey, I worked in the corporate world, but I always wanted to focus on making a bigger impact through my work while dreaming of taking an entrepreneurial path. My upbringing in South Africa, where I was surrounded by inequality and division, deeply shaped my desire to drive change. From a young age, discussions at home were always about creating impact and not accepting the status quo.

Now, as an entrepreneur, I’ve embraced the challenge of tackling significant problems through technology. Starting with a blank canvas is both the hardest and most rewarding thing I’ve done. There’s no guidebook, especially when you’re disrupting an established sector. My co-founder and I, both immigrants, shared the same frustration about the lack of purpose in our corporate jobs. We joined forces to build something meaningful—Powour, a venture focused on climate change.

Our goal is simple – to encourage people to think differently, particularly about transportation and sustainability. We’re challenging long-held beliefs, and while it’s tough to shift mindsets, we’re beginning with those most eager for change.

I won’t stop till every city in Australia looks like Dutch cities, but that will just be the beginning to making the world sustainable through our efforts at Powour.
