Moving to Australia has rekindled my passion for social impact. Connecting with the social impact community here has helped me find that part of myself that’s been sitting on the shelf all this time.

Growing up in Southern California, I spent a lot of time with my mom, volunteering at food kitchens and banks. Helping people and giving back to the community became a core part of my identity. Then life happened. School turned into a series of jobs, trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. That core part of me was put on the shelf while I figured the rest of my life out.

After channel surfing through jobs in my early twenties, I moved to San Francisco to dive into the start-up scene. It was there that I met my future partner while working at a start-up. We spent five years as friends and one as partners before deciding to move to Barcelona for school and work, and to experience a new world view.

In 2022, we came to Australia to experience where my partner grew up. We fell in love with Melbourne and decided to make it our home. Initially, I continued my freelance work for an innovation agency in Spain. Now, I work for an innovation lab at Swinburne University, where we help companies from startups to corporates find new markets and test new product ideas.

Moving to Australia has rekindled my passion for social impact. Connecting with the social impact community here has helped me find that part of myself that’s been sitting on the shelf all this time.

Starting ‘Good Fortune’ was a result of deep self-reflection. I wanted to create something meaningful that my future child could be proud of, showcasing a positive contribution to the world. ‘Good Fortune’ is an open-source library for sustainability and social impact start-ups from around the world. I wanted to create a space where people could find inspiration and motivation to build mission driven businesses for themselves. The project, launching in July 2024, is a long-held dream finally coming to life.

Moving continents was a significant pattern disruption for me, helping me reconnect with my passions and the Australian start-up ecosystem’s collaborative spirit has been refreshing. Here, people amplify each other’s ideas, fostering collective growth that allows me to contribute and grow with it.
