“I moved to Australia in 2015 with a dream to complete my Masters. While at university, I juggled multiple side gig jobs—sometimes even up to six at once! I wanted to explore every opportunity, not just to make ends meet, but to experience everything I could in this new land. By graduation, my consulting part-time role had turned full-time.

Back then my goal was to work in a corporation as my first startup didn’t take off, which left me disheartened. But a single networking event in Melbourne reignited my entrepreneurial spirit. That’s when I founded My Safety Bot in 2018—a pioneering IoT solution designed to ensure safety in hybrid workplaces. Despite the initial challenges, I persisted, and soon, my technology caught the attention of a reseller, to whom I later sold my business.

The turning point came in 2020, during COVID-19. With the gig economy on the rise, I saw an urgent need to protect gig workers’ rights and safety. I participated in a hackathon hosted by Launch Vic and the Victorian Government, and to my surprise, we won! This led to seed funding that allowed us to establish My Gigsters —an app that provides tools, safety measures, and financial solutions for gig workers.

Fast forward to 2022, we scaled our solution beyond gig workers, offering embedded financial services and automated accounting tools. With support from Antler Global and Startmate, we raised half a million dollars and partnered with government bodies to provide better insights into the gig economy.

Today, MyGigsters is a trusted partner for major companies like DoorDash, helping gig platforms boost gig worker engagement while being compliant. Our mission is to ensure financial security for gig workers globally, and we’re just getting started.

It’s been a journey filled with setbacks and breakthroughs, but every challenge strengthened our resolve to solve real-world problems. For me, this isn’t just a startup—it’s a mission rooted in my own experiences, and I’m grateful to everyone who’s been part of it.” Benjemen Elengovan
