“My journey, from moving cities for love to creating my business in Sydney, is a testament to turning obstacles into opportunities and success.
I’m originally from Melbourne, but about 3 & a half years ago, I made the move to Sydney. My wife & I had been doing long-distance dating for about 2 & a half years, & after COVID hit, we decided it was time to give it a real shot. So, I packed up & moved to Sydney, where we’ve been living ever since. We got married in March this year, which was one of the happiest moments of my life.
Our story began in the most modern way possible—I slid into her DMs. She had a company called The Daily Aus, and as an aspiring entrepreneur myself, I reached out to her. That was just over six years ago. We connected over our shared passion for business, & the rest, as they say, is history.
Before founding Fingertip about 18 months ago, I had always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I tried my hand at various projects—everything from Tupperware to customised yoga mats, & even corduroy jeans. But at the time, I was more focused on learning & building my skill set, so I went corporate for a while. I worked at L’Oréal in Melbourne, then moved to Sydney, where I joined the start-up scene with Klarna, which was just starting up in Australia.
Starting Fingertip wasn’t easy. One of my biggest challenges was figuring out the first move—what exactly did the market need? But once we got going, the feedback was positive. We aimed to create a product that would help small businesses, freelancers, & sole traders manage their operations seamlessly. Seeing people use Fingertip to run their businesses, generate income, & book appointments has been incredibly rewarding.
Looking back, my passion for entrepreneurship has always been there. Growing up, I admired my older sister, who opened my eyes to marketing, leadership and entrepreneurship. She set the path for me, and I knew I wanted to follow in her footsteps. As I’ve grown older, I’ve become more focused on gratitude. I’m healthy, happy, & surrounded by great people, both personally & professionally. Life is good, & I’m excited about what the future holds for Fingertip & beyond.” Olly Hoffman
